The government is acquiring 40 patrol boats to enhance the Philippine Coast Guard capability to defend the country’s maritime territory, President Marcos announced yesterday.
President Marcos boards the BRP Malabrigo to lead the celebration of the Philippine Coast Guard’s 122nd anniversary at the South Harbor in Manila yesterday. Inset shows the President talking to the crew of Malabrigo, the vessel that was blasted with a water cannon by China while on a mission to deliver food supplies to soldiers stationed on the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.
“We can see that our capability to defend our maritime , the sovereign territory of the Philippines, is increasing,” he added. Marcos thanked the PCG for providing steadfast service and dedication to duty during times of calamity, upholding the Philippines’ maritime security and promoting its maritime rights, fighting against the entry of smuggled goods, protecting the marine environment and securing the safety of fisherfolk as they pursue their means of livelihood.
The distinguished coast guard cross medal and ribbon were awarded to Petty Officer 3 Jason Nicol and Seaman First Joseph Rivera, who cut the rope barriers placed by the Chinese coast guard at the southeast entrance of Scarborough or Panatag Shoal. “Despite the dangers of operating in the West Philippine Sea, the coast guard continues to fulfill its mission of ensuring that we do not yield even a square inch our territory to any foreign power,” PCG chief Artemio Abu said.Celebrate Metrobank's birthday month with these special treats!SPOTTED: SB19, Mimiyuuuh share what it means to be authentic at Pepsi Pulse 2023The opening of the humanitarian corridor that would allow Filipinos to slip out of Gaza and into Egypt could be"any day..
