The 33-year-old free agent center, acquired at the trade deadline, spurned more lucrative offers because he is comfortable with a team he believes can contend for a title next season.

Plumlee, who averaged 8.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in the series, believes the Clippers will be title contenders this upcoming season. Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said at the end of the season that the team would “love to bring Mason back,” citing his energy and how well he runs the floor, but realized that free agency is a two-way street.Plumlee said his goal was to make the “best basketball decision” for himself and he feels the Clippers would have paid him relative to the other offers but were limited because of salary cap restrictions.
Plumlee is a strong rebounder and rim protector, providing the Clippers with a proven backup center to Ivica Zubac, something the team has sought for years. He averaged 7.5 points and 6.9 rebounds in 23 games with the Clippers, but he said he doesn’t have any expectations going into the 2023-24 season, only that it will be a daily grind going up against Zubac in practice.
