The decision, which will go into effect Monday, comes as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have declined in recent weeks.
Cleveland State University announced Friday that masks will now only be required in classrooms and laboratories effective Monday. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland State University announced Friday that masks will now only be required in classrooms and laboratories effective Monday.
The decision to roll back the mandates comes as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have declined in recent weeks. The decision is all attributed to Cuyahoga County being rated as “medium risk” and ended indoor mask requirements, according to the announcement from the university. Masks are recommendation in places such as offices, meeting rooms, recreational facilities and common area, the announcement said.
“We fully recognize and respect that some of our faculty, students and staff will choose to continue to wear a mask,” officials said in the announcement. “That is consistent with CDC guidelines for those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised. We have all become accustomed to wearing masks over the last two years and understand that regardless of vaccination status, a number of us will choose to continue masking in all settings.
The university offers vaccinations every Tuesday and booster shots every Wednesday by appointment in room 205 at Center for Innovation in Medical Professions.
