The top name on Cleveland’s scouting report, Young averaged 32.5 points in the four regular season meetings between the two teams. The Hawks won the season series, 3-1, including a 131-107 blowout inside Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on March 31. Young poured in 30 points that night. He had 41 in a pre-All-Star break victory.
“They played well, and they moved the ball well as a team,” said veteran Rajon Rondo, who played 27 games alongside Young during the 2020-21 season. “Trae accepted the double teams that Charlotte threw at him at the start of the game. He got off the ball extremely well, he shared the ball with his teammates and they made plays for each other.”
All-Star center Jarrett Allen is officially listed as questionable -- a positive status change after missing the past 19 games with a fractured middle finger on his left hand. Multiple sources say Allen has been doing everything possible to play and wants to give it a try, seeing how it goes, seeing if he can help even at less than 100 percent.
“K.D. and Kyrie are more iso players and Trae’s going to be in at least 50 to 60 pick and rolls a game,” Rondo said. “I know Trae’s mindset, I played with him a couple months, he’s going to go out swinging and fighting. Atlanta has a lot more shooters on the court. We all want to extend the season and continue to grow as a team and make some noise.”
