A Jordan Clarkson-less Gilas Pilipinas closed its three-game friendly with a narrow 77-84 loss to Mexico on Monday night, August 21 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Opting to rest Clarkson, the Philippines still managed to engage toe-to-toe against the Mexicans after shooting a blistering 61 percent from the floor in the opening half to force a 51-51 standoff. But the Filipinos slowly lost control of the game after lapsing into seven turnovers in the third quarter alone, allowing the Mexicans to dictate the pace from thereon.
Fabian James and Josh Ibarra were the other double-figure scorers for Mexico with 15 and 12, respectively.Gilas, which also didn't play Third Ravena and Bobby Ray Parks, Jr, drew nine points each from Dwight Ramos and Roger Pogoy, while Jamie Malonzo and 7-foot-3 slot man Kai Sotto added eight apiece.
