“The results of investigations have been unanimous and unmistakable: at this time, there is no evidence of specific links between recent whale mortalities and ongoing surveys for offshore wind development,” Murphy’s office said in a statement Tuesday. While “incidental take authorizations” are granted for some companies developing turbines, none of those arise to allow for seriously harming or killing whales, they said.
“While we are not opposed to clean energy, we are concerned about the impacts these projects may already be having on our environment,” reads an excerpt from the letter, also sent to Democratic Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker. “We again urge you to take action now to prevent future deaths from needlessly occurring on our shorelines.”
