Chris Pratt and Tom Holland play brothers in the upcoming Pixar movie 'Onward,' and they also are pals in real life.
The twosome are bantering buddies in real life, members of the mighty Marvel movie brotherhood and now elf siblings in the animated fantasy “Onward” . Holland, 23, stars as Ian Lightfoot, a 16-year-old gifted with a magical staff and enchantment to spend 24 hours with the father who died before he was born, and Pratt, 40, voices burly big brother Barley, with whom Ian goes on an epic quest after their spell goes awry.
The pair shared the screen first, however, as superheroes: Pratt’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” rogue Star-Lord met Holland’s Spider-Man in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and then teamed up with a zillion other do-gooders to battle Thanos in last year’s “Avengers: Endgame.
Holland notes that “the journey of joining the MCU does change your life,” and Pratt, as well as his fellow actors, were helpful during that process. “For me, it was knowing that if there's ever a moment where I have a wobbly, I can call Chris or call these other guys and be like, ‘I’m really struggling. Can you help me out?’ And everyone's always there.”
The relationship between Ian and Barley reflects that of Pratt’s with his brother. “It's so eerily similar,” Pratt says. “I was absolutely the fragile, slightly broken, insecure kid and my older brother was there no matter what.”
