“It’s been a great point of emphasis for us to try to add offensive players to our major league team and in the upper levels of our minor league system,” said Chris Antonetti, president of baseball operations.
Manzardo, 23, is currently on the injured list at Class AAA Durham with a strained left shoulder. When he’s healthy, he’ll most likely report to Class AAA Columbus.
The left-handed hitting Manzardo batted .238 with 19 doubles, 11 homers and 38 RBI. He posted a .784 OPS in 73 games at Durham before he was injured. The trade leaves the Guardians with a vacancy in the rotation. Antonetti named several internal candidates who have a chance to replace Civale. He also said the Guardians would continue to explore trade options through Tuesday’s 6 p.m. deadline.
The Rays drafted Manzardo out of Washington State University in the second round in 2021. His stats declined a bit this year, his first at Triple-A.
