“We’re putting the best team together, we’re not putting a group of superstars.” Chot Reyes says the preparations in the coming months will determine how Gilas Pilipinas will fare in the FIBA World Cup. FIBAWC
MANILA, Philippines – If Gilas Pilipinas intends to go toe-to-toe with its opponents in the FIBA World Cup, it needs to be “much better” than its fabled 2014 squad, according to head coach Chot Reyes.
Despite qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in nearly four decades, the Filipinos were no pushovers in 2014. The Philippines then outlasted Senegal in overtime in its final game for its first World Cup win in 40 years. “I think if we come in with a game that we brought in 2014, it’s not going to be enough,” said Reyes.
