Chot Reyes has stepped down as coach of Gilas Pilipinas, moments after NBA star Jordan Clarkson erupted with 34 points to help lift the Filipinos to a 96-75 swamping of China at the end of their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 campaigns on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“It was a decision that I arrived at with my family. I think it’s time,” said Reyes, as Gilas celebrated its only triumph in the World Cup. But practices only began on Aug. 18, a week before their first game, not like Team USA, which got down to their its scrimmages on Aug. 3.
