A ship of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) rescued two Filipino fishermen in the Spratly Islands, according to the Chinese Embassy in Manila, quoting a report from its state-run media.

In a statement on Friday, the Chinese Embassy quoted Xinhua as saying that the PLA Navy vessel 'Aba' was approached by the Filipino fishermen seeking help.One was wounded by propeller blades and needed treatment, according to the report.PLA naval medics examined the wounds and brought the fisherman aboard for further treatment, the report said.While on the ship, PLA naval medics cleansed the fisherman's wounds, stopped the bleeding, and bandaged them after.

The China Coast Guard informed its Philippine counterpart of the rescue via a hotline between the two countries, according to Xinhua.The rescue comes as a respite from the ongoing territorial dispute between Manila and Beijing in the South China Sea.China has been claiming ownership of the entire SCS, which the Philippines and other claimants have protested.
