They’re charged with breaking into an Equifax dispute portal. The four spent several weeks determining how to break into the Equifax database behind that portal website, making as many as 9,000 queries to obtain U.S. citizens’ data, including their names and social security numbers, the Justice Department announced Monday.
According to the DOJ, the defendants took significant steps to hide their tracks, routing their web traffic from the compromised Equifax servers through 34 servers and 20 countries.
