I had rebellious ideas and if this is who Chicago thinks is a Chicago poet, I’m going to the Art Institute to look a Paul Klee paintings and write about that! I was naive. I also didn’t know Chicago poets.

Not Brooks.I never read a contemporary Chicago poet until reading her. The thing I was most moved by was she wrote about ordinary people.
