SPRINGFIELD — Chicago Public Schools defended its COVID-19 policies in a downstate courtroom Tuesday as six CPS teachers try again to prevent the district from requiring them to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or undergo weekly testing.

William Gerber, arguing on behalf of DeVore, chided CPS for contending its policy would be more of a labor issue when he believes it’s not covered under collective bargaining. “A collective bargaining agreement cannot adopt policy in violation of state statutes,” Gerber said. “Due process is constantly being taken from these people on a regular basis.”
