Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Brian Tee, who played Dr. Ethan Choi in Chicago Med, is returning to the show in a new role. Tee spent eight seasons playing Choi, a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases.
While Dr. Choi will not be returning to the show, his actor is. Instead of claiming a new character, however, Tee will instead remain behind the camera. Tee will be directing an episode of Chicago Med season 9, according to a report by Deadline. Tee previously directed season 8, episode 17, "Know When to Hold and When to Fold", which took place after his character's exit. This will be his second stint as a director for the show.
Why Did Dr. Choi Leave Chicago Med? It seems somewhat strange that Brian Tee would leave the show, only to return twice shortly after his farewell episode. After all, most actors who leave a show tend to stay away for some time, only returning in occassional cameo appearances. Tee is taking a different strategy. While he may not be in front of the camera, Tee is still playing a prominent role in One Chicago's development as a director. That involves a considerable time investment.

Dr. Choi had good reason to leave the show, as he was leaving to start an outreach organization. His actor has also been moving on into a similar but different field. Like Choi, he wants to remain close to his career, but he is simply pivoting in a new direction.
