One dead, possibly three injured in Midtown shooting
Police block off a section of Gray at Main about a block away from where a man was fatally shot Monday evening, April 17, 2023.A wild gunbattle erupted on Gray Street in Midtown Monday evening, leaving three people hurt and one of two suspected gunmen dead, Houston police said.
Police said the gunfight, which began just before 6 p.m., started with the targeted shooting of one man and was followed almost immediately by a second shooter taking revenge and firing upon the initial gunman, killing him.Port of Galveston police searching for man who stole, crashed shrimp boatThe man identified as the gunman in the first shooting was believed to have been killed, police said. The person who shot him fled the scene before officers arrived.
None of the victims were named Monday night. HPD commander Caroleta Johnson said the three injured people were all in stable condition. As the gunman ran west on Gray, he was pursued by a second gunman, who came out from behind a Louisiana Fried Chicken restaurant and started firing, Johnson said. The two exchanged fire and the first shooter was fatally wounded.
