Leadership at Maxwell Air Force Base changes hands Wednesday, as the 42nd Air Base Wing welcomes a new commander. Col. Ryan Richardson will officially pass the torch to Col Shamekia Toliver as the commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Col. Ryan Richardson will officially pass the torch to Col. Shamekia Toliver as the commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing.
The 42nd ABW oversees all base operations, infrastructure, and services support for 42,000 active duty, Reserve, civilian, and contract personnel, students, and families at Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex in direct support of Air University, 908th Airlift Wing, Air Force Materiel Command units, Defense Information Systems Agency, and more than 40 other mission partners.
Col. Ryan Richardson has led that effort for the last two years. On Wednesday, Col. Shamekia Toliver will take over those responsibilities. Maxwell AFB also just installed a new Mission Support Group Commander. Col. Robert Firman now oversees the base’s community support services, which include fire protection, communications, contracting, fuels, supply, transportation, air traffic control, airfield management, and base security and police services, just to name a few.
