NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — Festivities for Día de Los Muertos have started in San Diego County, the tradition to honor loved ones who have died. Community members got an early preview Saturday at a Plaza Bonita mall event with face painting, live performances and photo opportunities with catrines y catrina's.
Día de Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is commemorated November 1-2. The holiday pays tribute to the life of those who are no longer alive.Sanchez took part in the Día de Los Muertos activities at Plaza Bonita mall. For Sanchez, this two day celebration means a time to commemorate the loved ones close to her who are no longer here. Many people create ofrendas or altars filled with flowers, candles and objects that represent their loved ones.
