Cruise passengers who want to know about the onboard spread of coronavirus can no longer find the information online from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
July 20, 2022 --
The agency confirmed that on Monday it stopped posting a chart and spreadsheet about COVID -19 cases onboard the ships in U.S. waters. The program began in the early days of the pandemic.. Passengers may contact cruise lines directly about outbreaks on specific ships. On its website, the CDC says it closed the program because it “depended upon each cruise line having the same COVID-19 screening testing standards, which may now vary among cruise lines.”“CDC has determined that the cruise industry has access to the necessary tools to prevent and mitigate COVID-19 on board.”reported. Requirements for children vary from line to line.
COVID-19 cases worldwide are increasing. When the CDC site stopped sharing the monitoring data this week, 93 of 95 ships reporting to the CDC had enough COVID -19 cases to be “under observation.” “While cruising poses some risk of COVID-19 transmission, CDC will continue to publish guidance to help cruise ships continue to provide a safer and healthier environment for crew, passengers, and communities going forward,” the CDC says on its site.“The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships. If the virus is spreading on board a cruise ship, passengers and crew are at risk for infection.
