Even though as moms it's driven into our heads that we need to stop comparing ourselves to others, it can be so tough not to play the"how do I stack up" game, particularly with how much"perfection" we see all around us these days.
But underneath the surface, Bernadette is a mom who has no idea who she is anymore and is struggling with her sense of identity, which is something all of us can relate to.Without spoiling the movie, let's just say that there are a couple of key reasons as to why Bernadette lost herself along the way.After all, as a mom, it's impossible to have it all, right? You can't be at the height of your career and give 100% of yourself to your kids all at the same time ...
I had the pleasure of chatting with Cate and with Richard Linklater, the director of the movie. They gave more insight into Bernadette's struggles. It's OK to NOT BE OK. And when it comes to other people around us, we have to remember that what we are seeing in person and on social media is nothing more than a highlight reel. No one is sharing their struggles, challenges, and failures, and you never quite know what is happening behind the scenes.
The bottom line is that we're all doing the best we can, and we're all on a journey to stay true to who we are while taking care of the people we hold dear to us.Trust me. This is one summer flick you absolutely don't want to miss.
