Eligible San Franciscans could soon receive payments of up to $100 per week for abstaining from illicit drugs under a proposed 'Cash Not Drugs' legislation.Accompanied by a crowd of approximately 50 supporters, District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey announced the legislation on the steps of San Francisco City Hall on Monday morning.
'A humane and effective approach to San Francisco's drug crisis should also include rewarding good behavior and not just punishing bad behavior,' said Dorsey, who added he was a recovering addict himself at the Monday press conference.According to a statement by Dorsey's office, approximately 5,700 residents received monthly CAAP benefits in the 2022-23 fiscal year - which primarily included cash assistance and employment services for poor residents without dependent children.
