The Chicago Bears entered the 2023 NFL Draft with a need for better depth at cornerback. The Bears allowed a middling 17th-ranked 218.6 passing yards per contest in 2022. General manager Ryan Poles addressed the position by selecting former Miamiwith the No. 56 overall pick. Stevenson possesses an opportunity to quickly work his way into the Bears’ rotation.
Gordon largely split time between the boundary and nickel position in the Bears’ defensive backfield. Balancing multiple positions undeniably made Gordon’s life harder. Gordon played 431 snaps at the nickel versus 295 at outside corner, via PFF. With Stevenson joining the room, Gordon may be freed up to play the nickel on a full-time basis, which is his most natural position.
