’s Prince Charles was a revelation. Still, there’s work to be done if Morgan wants to end the series on a high note.would benefit from an increased emphasis on continuity. The very concept of the show is that it jumps years between each episode, depicting particularly interesting moments in royal or British or global history. By doing this, though, Morgan often asks us to care deeply about a person or their relationships for just an hour—then moves on to a new topic.
Her growth as a character also seems questionable. It was one thing for Foy’s version to be naive about politics in season one, at age 26. But at the close of season three, when she’s celebrating her Silver Jubilee—25 years as monarch—Colman’s queen still seems flung out of space. “It feels as if we are waiting for Colman toElizabeth somehow, to give the speech or wield the look that will reveal her in her true, divine, queenly form,”in her review of the season.
