Senate candidate Dr. Raul Garcia is calling on Washington state leaders to issue an emergency proclamation to deal with the fentanyl crisis.

“I will be very honest. I don’t think it’s realistic to say in 90 days we'll have more treatment. The long-term solution is to make sure that anyone in Oregon, not just in Portland, that is seeking a pathway to recovery has a way to get the treatment they need," Kotek said. “It’s a shame to see the stench of death in our streets. We’re losing two to three people a day here, that’s insane," Garcia said. The legislature is currently considering several proposals to address the fentanyl crisis,, which would update the statute for endangerment with a controlled substance to include fentanyl and synthetic opioids.
Garcia believes a state of emergency and increased enforcement against dealers will slow down the flow of synthetic fentanyl.Prohibiting the sale and distribution of non-medical fentanyl in our state
