New California fire sparks near Santa Barbara, growing to 4,100 acres overnight
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—A fast-moving fire in California’s Los Padres National Forest threatened homes in Santa Barbara as it exploded in size to more than 4,300 acres Tuesday, driven by wind and abundant brush.
The Cave Fire, which began Monday night, resulted in mandatory evacuation orders in the hills and mountains north of Santa Barbara, with wind gusts as strong as 80 miles an hour, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles.
