During a news conference Monday, Attorney General Rob Bonta refuted the narrative that undocumented immigrants are the force behind fentanyl smuggling from Mexico to the U.S.

During a visit to the San Diego border region on Monday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta pushed back against a false narrative that undocumented immigrants are the driving force behind the country’s fentanyl epidemic.

Bonta’s comments came during a news conference that highlighted the region’s efforts to combat fentanyl overdoses. Stephan called for tougher penalties against drug dealers whose product ends up killing people. She also stressed the need for more preventative measures aimed at curbing addiction, saying that criminal enforcement is not the only way out of the fentanyl crisis.
