Cal Fire: Brush fire burns 450 acres near the U.S.-Mexico border [Breaking]
A brush fire near Tecate had burned about 450 acres Wednesday evening and threatened to cross the U.S.-Mexico border near East County, Cal Fire officials said.
Firefighters received a report of a brush fire spreading southwest of the border around 4 p.m., Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said. Two hours later, the fire was within 300 yards of the border near Tecate Peak. A social media post from Cal Fire shortly after 4:30 p.m. stated incorrectly that the fire had crossed over the border and burned 100 acres on the U.S. side.[Update]Due to the updated mapping and intelligence products, the fire is south of the international border. The fire is 458 acres and is completely within Mexico.
Cal Fire airplanes and helicopters dropped fire retardant across areas on the U.S. side in case the fire moves north, the fire captain added. State firefighters had not reported any injuries or threatened structures on the U.S. side as of early Wednesday evening.
