The massive boulders tumbled down onto the highway at 5:40 p.m. Thursday and crews are working to clear them as soon as possible. California Highway Patrol described the rocks as"cabin size." The slide did not cause any injuries or damage any cars, CHP said. CHP said there is no estimated time of opening and advised drivers to find alternative routes. People traveling to and from the Tahoe Basin should take Interstate 80.CHP advised against taking backroads due to a snow storm that's forecast to sweep the Sierra Nevada Friday afternoon into Saturday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting 4 to 8 inches of snow about 4,000 feet and 1 to 4 inches above 2,500 feet.Crews worked through the night on clearing the highway and are performing blasting operations Friday morning, CHP said.
