A Lunar New Year celebration was underway nearby, but the shooting did not happen at the festival, authorities said. Police in the nearby city of Alhambra were investigating an incident, which also occurred at a dance studio, that might be connected to the shooting, Luna said. In the Alhambra incident, which occurred 17 minutes after the Monterey Park shooting, an Asian man entered the dance studio with a gun, and several people there wrestled the weapon away from him before he fled the scene.
The president added that he has directed his Homeland Security Advisor " to mobilize full federal support to local and state authorities as they continue to respond and investigate this shooting."
