Charisma Carpenter shades Angel season 4 as problematic in a Tweet. In the role of Cordelia Chase, which she originated on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for three seasons, before moving to the spinoff Angel, Carpenter became a fan-favorite. Viewers adored the character's evolution, going from a self-absorbed rich girl in the very first episode of Buffy to helping the helpless in Angel.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Reacting to a snarky tweet, Carpenter kept the vibe going by calling out the problematic Angel season 4. In her response, the actor made reference to the show's divisive season 4 plot involving Angel's son Connor getting Cordelia, who was possessed by a demon, pregnant, and giving birth to a fully formed adult.
In the opinion of many fans, that toxic treatment reflected the way Cordelia was written during Angel season 4. Possessed by an evil entity, Cordelia would enter into a romantic relationship with Connor even though she'd been helping to raise him. At other points during the season, Cordelia would be stuck in a coma while the main character monologued around her. Finally, she was written off the main cast entirely for Angel season 5.
Fans will have different opinions whether Cordelia's emotional return in Angel season 5 redeems the mystifying arc of her previous appearances, but there's no denying what Carpenter went through. For many years after the spinoff ended, the actor would allude to it in brief or discuss it with a degree of reluctance. But she's being clear now about what happened and why it was wrong.
