Brush fire along I-15 north of Escondido slows southbound traffic [Breaking]
Cal Fire crews kept a fire along the freeway north of Escondido to an acre Tuesday, but lane closures slowed southbound traffic.
The fire was reported on southbound Interstate 15 just before 11:30 a.m. about a half-mile south of Deer Springs Road, Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua said. Crews fought the fire on the ground and called in a helicopter. However, the aircraft had to peel off because someone was flying a drone over the site, Pascua said. Officials had to find the owner and get the drone down before the helicopter could return.The forward spread of the fire was stopped and it was no longer actively burning as of 1 p.m., but crews will remain on site to get the burn area surrounded and to put out hot spots.
Two lanes were closed on southbound I-15 at Deer Springs, and traffic was backed up north of Gopher Canyon, California Highway Patrol Officer Danielle McComb said.
