The boys were arrested after the steering columns of the vehicles — each a Kia — were damaged in unsuccessful attempts to steal the cars,One teen was in possession of a USB cable commonly used to steal Kia and Hyundai vehicles when police found the trio walking in the area Connecticut and Wabash avenues at around 9:20 p.m. Friday, authorities said.Officers found the second teen was carrying a screwdriver, which is used to turn the ignition and break the steering column of vehicles, police said.
Two of the teens were arrested and charged with three counts apiece of burglary and criminal mischief and one count each of possession of burglary tools. The boy found with the credit cards was later charged with possession of stolen property. The Atlantic City Police Department is distributing free steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia owners in an effort to deter future thefts.
