Partisan politics seems to creeping into Indiana school board elections as the state AG announces support for candidates and lawmakers want change.

It’s election season, and that means there will be unexpected alliances, antics and all-around strange activities afoot.

That’s when things got good — from a reporter’s perspective that is. The boring school board race, where we knew the outcome turned into an “it’s anyone’s guess” contest. School board candidate forums would go from sparse at best one election season to standing room-only affairs the next.I would marvel at what issues got different communities worked up.

I knew then we’d see an onslaught of school board candidates from those various districts who were unhappy with the board’s decisions and now want a seat on the board. However, there are two occurrences I never expected to see: partisanship in a school board race or the state attorney general endorsing candidates.

Why just these candidates? Surely, these can’t be the only candidates in the entire state of Indiana who have parental rights as part of their platform. It seems like if the attorney general is going to involve himself in school board elections, he would choose more than two.
