Her children will experience the important milestones in life, and their mom won’t be there. She will never be there, and though, the adults who raise them may try to fill the void left behind from the loss of their mother, it won’t ever be filled.

When Domestic Violence Awareness Month launched in October 1987, domestic violence was shrouded in secrecy, shame and denial. We have knowledge today about intimate partner violence. We know to watch for red flags. We know that abuse isn’t always physical. We know those experiencing abuse often hide it.Yet, domestic violence persists.We often disbelieve the accusations because we don’t believe so-and-so would abuse anyone as if looks are an indicator of who’s capable of abuse and who isn’t.According to the, 42.5% of women and 27.

We can continue to educate ourselves on domestic violence. We can watch how we speak about domestic violence. We can be understanding — not judgmental —if someone doesn’t leave a relationship on our timeline. Instead, we should learn to create a safe space for that individual to leave when he or she is ready.
