A driver in Hinsdale crashed into a Fontano’s restaurant Monday afternoon, critically injuring a 14-year-old outside the suburban sub shop, police said.

A 14-year-old boy who had been outside the restaurant was transported to Hinsdale Hospital and later flown to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, police said.Inside the restaurant, three people were hit by the car or debris from the crash. They were transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition, police said. Another customer inside Fontano’s was treated for injuries at the scene and released.
Based on initial reports, law enforcement agencies investigating the crash believe the driver had been leaving a parking lot across the street when the accident occurred, police said. The restaurant faces a car wash. Officers have interviewed the driver, who was not injured. Authorities had not yet decided whether the driver will be charged in the crash, police said.
