With Parliament preparing to vote on legislation blocking a no-deal Brexit, Boris Johnson is sending a warning to Tory rebels
on Monday. “Any Conservative MP who does this will have the whip withdrawn and will not stand as a Conservative candidate in an election.”
The threat represented a dramatic escalation in the new prime minister’s Brexit fight as lawmakers return from their summer recess Tuesday. Johnson is planning to pull Britain from the E.U. next month with or without a deal in place, but lawmakers are expected to put forth legislation this week to prevent him from doing that. The bill, a copy of which was, would require Johnson to obtain an extension from the E.U. if a deal is not reached by the withdrawal date in October.
“This is about the national interest,” a source close to the Conservative MPs under threat of being kicked out of the party
