Shares in Spirit AeroSystems took a bigger hit despite the supplier to Boeing saying that the 737 issue will not make a material impact to its delivery range.
Boeing stock dropped on Thursday after its supplier Spirit AeroSystems acknowledged a quality issue impacting some 737 models.“We are aware of a quality issue involving elongated fastener holes on the aft pressure bulkhead on certain models of the 737 fuselage produced by Spirit AeroSystems, ” the aerostructures manufacturer said in a statement on Wednesday.
The key question is whether the issue will impact deliveries of 737s to Boeing from Spirit and then from the aircraft manufacturer onward. Spirit said that “based upon what we know now, we believe there will not be a material impact to our delivery range for the year related to this issue.” Boeing flagged that the defect will delay near-term deliveries and may cause the group to miss annual delivery targets, Reuters reported, citing the company. Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Barron’s.
