UPDATE: The Polk Co. Sheriff says the body of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham has been found in the Trinity River.
Audrii had been missing since Thursday, Feb. 15, when investigators say she didn't make it to her school bus that morning. Authorities confirmed that Don Steven McDougal, 42, was the last person seen with the missing 11-year-old girl. But investigators say he's not fully cooperating in the massive search to find her.
"Investigators have given McDougal, who was a who was arrested Friday on an unrelated charge, several opportunities to cooperate," Lt. Bruce Cummings with the Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday. "And we remain hopeful that he will begin helping in this case." Lyons confirmed McDougal is a friend of the family and lives in a camper behind the home where Audrii lives with her father and other family members. Lyons said McDougal would occasionally take Audrii to the bus stop or drive her to school if she missed the bus.
On Friday, investigators discovered a backpack that appeared to belong to a child at the Lake Livingston dam, DPS said. On Monday, the Polk County sheriff said there's "a high probability that it's going to be Audrii's."
