Bob Iger is returning to lead the Walt Disney Co. effective immediately, the company said in a surprise announcement.

Iger is back as CEO, replacing Chapek, the company announced Sunday night.
Iger, who had served as Disney CEO for 15 years from 2005 to 2020, said in the news release, “I am extremely optimistic for the future of this great company and thrilled to be asked by the Board to return as its CEO.” within the Walt Disney Co. soon. He had said the company was looking to reduce its workforce through a companywide cost-cutting initiative. His note did not say where these layoffs are expected to take place.
