The Blue Jackets broke a seven-game winless streak with a 4-2 win over the Flyers on Tuesday.
Just over 10 minutes after picking up his first NHL point with the assist, Meyer stepped up another level and scored his first goal — on his first shot in the NHL. Defenseman Zach Werenski set up Meyer for the finish on a two-on-one rush, and Meyer wasted no time as he fired the puck past Hart's glove side.
Though the Flyers had a 20-8 advantage in shots on goal after the first period, it took them until the 17:35 mark to get on the board. Noah Cates took full advantage of the Jackets leaving him open in the low slot and scored his first NHL goal to halve the deficit heading into intermission. At 13:16 of the second, the Flyers' continued push paid off as defenseman Ronnie Attard nearly became the third player in the game to score his first NHL goal, though the puck was tipped by James van Riemsdyk on the way to the net.
In the third period, each team failed to score on a power-play opportunity that would've given them the lead. Shortly after the Jackets' power play ended, Danforth scored the game-winner. The Flyers pulled Hart with 1:48 left and were unable to score an equalizer. Sean Kuraly hit the empty net with 20 seconds left to seal the win.
