Blue Island fire Chief Dave Haywood Jr. said the fire at Eclectic Artistry Boutique was caused by an accident, likely from the compressor in a small, dorm-style refrigerator.

“It was caused by what we think is a compressor in a small, dorm-style refrigerator,” Haywood said. “It was in the landing of the first floor of the Boutique and it just spread from there.”The investigation is not officially closed, Haywood said. Because the State Fire Marshal must complete specific steps, including an analysis to see if there are any recalls for the refrigerator, Haywood explained.
