Biden weighed in on the rapidly escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, charging that President Trump has upped the odds of a military confrontation by “walking away from diplomacy” with Tehran

Former Vice President Joe Biden weighed in Thursday on the rapidly escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, charging that President Donald Trump has upped the odds of a military confrontation by “walking away from diplomacy” with Tehran.

The remarks from Biden came hours after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for shooting down an American drone, which it claimed violated Iranian airspace. U.S. officials have asserted that the unmanned aircraft was destroyed over international airspace above the Strait of Hormuz, according to multiple media outlets.

Biden on Thursday renewed his criticisms of Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of that pact, brokered under former President Barack Obama’s administration, asserting that Tehran has “only gotten more aggressive” since Trump “unilaterally withdrew from the hard-won nuclear agreement that the Obama-Biden Administration negotiated.”
