President Joe Biden sent"a few" top U.S. military officers to Israel to advise the Israel Defense Forces on military operations in Gaza, the White House confirmed Monday.
Axios reported Monday morning that Biden had tapped Marine Lt. Gen. James Glynn, who was involved in Marines special operations countering the Islamic State in Iraq, and other top officials to consult the IDF.National Security Council spokesman John Kirby joined White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at Monday's briefing to update reporters on the situation in Israel.
While Kirby confirmed the broad scope of the report, he did not say which military officials the president had sent to Israel. "What I can tell you is that that there are a few relevant military officers with the kinds of experience that we believe is appropriate to the sorts of operations that Israel is conducting and may conduct in the future, to go over there to share some perspectives from their own experience and to ask the hard questions," he said when asked about the report,"the same hard questions that we've been asking of our Israeli counterparts since the beginning.
