President Joe Biden announced on Monday that Shuwanza Goff would serve as the new director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs starting in August.

Goff will succeed Louisa Terrell, a top staffer who is set to depart her administration job at the end of the month. Terrell served as a key go-between for Biden and congressional lawmakers in multiple standoffs, including the debt ceiling saga and passage of the bipartisan infrastructure law and Inflation Reduction Act."Shuwanza is a proven leader and trusted voice on both sides of the aisle.

"Shuwanza’s close partnership with my decadeslong friends in the House and Senate, and her expertise, instincts and deep respect for the United States Congress will continue to serve our Administration and the American people well," he closed. Before joining the Biden White House, Goff served as director of legislative operations for Majority Leader Steny Hoyer . White House officials said her time on Capitol Hill allowed Goff to build strong relationships with Republican staff, including in leadership offices.She will join White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young as the first black women to lead their respective White House offices.
