Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at the Mactan International Airport in Cebu intercepted a family of three Africans from boarding their flight to South Korea. ManilaBulletin

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the mother from Senegal and her two minor children were apparently victims of human traffickers as their passports bore no arrival stamps.

“It appears that these Africans were victimized by a trafficking syndicate that uses the Philippines as a transit point for smuggling illegal aliens to other countries,” Tansingco added. They were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Cebu for assistance, prior to their return to their port of origin.

“This incident proves that human trafficking is not just a Philippine problem, but a global one that needs combined efforts of various governments to solve it," the BI chief stressed.
