opened the memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, with moving renditions of "XO" and "Halo." The songs were beautifully woven together and included a gospel choir, with Beyoncé repeating the lyrics "Halo, don't fade away."
The singer-songwriter was introduced as "a very close friend of the Bryant family" and appeared to be singing directly to Vanessa Bryant, Kobe's widow and Gigi's mother, throughout the performance. As she began singing "XO," Beyoncé pointed to the sky and said: "I'm here because I love Kobe, and this was one of his favorite songs. I want you to sing it so loud, they'll hear your love.
To further honor the former basketball players, Beyoncé's look was entirely inspired by the Lakers' colors. She wore a gorgeous gold suit and an amethyst ring and earrings. Additionally, her nails were painted purple and emblazoned with Kobe and Gigi's names written in gold letters.
