"Having learned this morning of the passing of our former President, Lieutenant Jeremy Payne, we are heartbroken and offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends," the association wrote in a statement on Sunday.
"Lieutenant Payne was a compassionate leader who fought tirelessly for his fellow brothers and sisters working for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. We ask everyone to keep those who shared their lives with him in their thoughts and prayers. At this time, we are unable to provide details surrounding his passing and ask that his family's privacy be respected."
