A Black man and his partner, shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond for their new home, had the police called on them by an employee who thought they were shoplifting.
A couple shopping at a Bed Bath & Beyond store in Toledo, Ohio, said that a shop employee called the police on them for allegedly having"too many high ticket items" in their shopping cart, thinking they were trying to shoplift them. The couple are Black.
Lamar Richards is a John Hopkins University's graduate and director at the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development . He was shopping with his partner at the Toledo store on June 16 after the two just purchased their first home.of how he and his partner were stopped by a Bed Bath & Beyond employee who took items worth over $200 from their cart and held them behind the counter while the two shopped.
