Crawford was born in Mountain View and grew up in Pleasanton, only 42 miles from Vallejo, although he said he doesn’t remember playing as a kid in Vallejo, only Benicia.
Crawford — who annually donates a portion of his salary to charitable causes — previously showed his support with the Gilman Field Renovation in San Francisco’s Bayview community in 2021.
The restored field features new grass infields, outfields, bases, infield and outfield dirt warning track mix, fence caps and poles, dugout roofs and benches, electric scoreboard, paint and a custom mural, fence and backstop repair as well as irrigation and valves. The grass used is from the same farm that Oracle Park uses in San Francisco.
“When we first came here the field had not been used for some time and the weeds were knee-high,” Harper said. “The process of fixing this field was pretty smooth because the city was great to work with and that’s usually the hardest part. They also helped with providing a place to put all the stuff from the old field.
The Giants Community Fund uses baseball and softball to promote health, education and character development to propel youth in underserved regions to be positive forces in their communities. The Fund, a 501 public charity, is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and sustained by contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations through a number of special partnerships and fundraisers.
Good Tidings Foundation has awarded over $1,930,000 in scholarships for children in under-served communities in partnership with professional sports teams and industry icons.
