COLUMBUS, Ohio — A majority of Ohio voters said they would vote for Issue 1, the proposed abortion rights amendment, if the election was held today, according to a newly released poll by Baldwin Wallace University.
The poll is the latest to sample voters on their feelings about Issue 1. The Nov. 7 election is just 20 days away.would add a section into the state constitution that says everyone has the right to make and carry out their own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to contraception, fertility treatment, pregnancy, miscarriage care and abortion.
Tom Sutton, a Baldwin Wallace political science professor and director of its Community Research Institute, said that the consistency in support for abortion rights is because “the vast majority of people know what they think about it and it’s not going to be changed by any advertising.
“How people identify by party is different than how they identify on a personal issue like abortion,” he said. “I think you have a quiet set of Republicans — people who identify as Republican voters but who believe choice should be maintained with limits — in a way that more or less replicates that were the limits that were part of the Roe decision.”
